Pelosi touts big fundraising numbers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Take that, John Boehner.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she raised $6.8 million in August, at least $2.8 million more than Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he did in the same period of time.

Pelosi raised money in eight states, one U.S. territory and Washington, D.C., her office said at the outset of the Democratic National Convention here.

Boehner pulled in roughly $4 million in 23 days, his office said last week in Tampa, Fla.

The dash for dollars defines Congressional recesses, especially for people of Boehner and Pelosi's stature. Boehner is trying to keep the House, and Pelosi is trying to snatch it back. Boehner said last week that he would only allow Pelosi to take the speaker's gavel from his "stone cold hands."

Pelosi's fundraising figure also illustrates her continued prowess at pulling in dollars. Her office says she's raised more than $307 million for Democrats in the past decade, and $65 million since 2010.
